Our trees will never be cut down. To guarantee permanence, we plant trees that are productive and self-sustaining, even in harsh environment.

Neem is our preferred species

Neem is an attractive tall evergreen that provides welcome  shade and thrives in arid areas, even on infertile soils
Native to the Indian subcontinent and most countries in Africa, Neem is an ideal tree for the harshest environments:
Very fast growth rate
Tolerates high temperatures
Survives long dry seasons and with very little rainfall during the year
Very little maintenance is required over time to obtain healthy growth rates of the trees

Why is this good for carbon removal

It’s suitable on infertile soils which enables clear additionality
It has fast development of roots and branches which helps with  rapid carbon capture
It develops a deep tap root systemso the need for irrigation is less
It has a constant production of seeds, leaves and bark which adds to circular economy
In addition we want to cultivate a multi-species forest with trees that are important for the local communities
Acacia
Acacia  grows naturally in the desert areas of the Sahara, requiring little water and producing a resin known as Gum Arabica
Argan
Indigenous of central Morocco it grows in harsh dry conditions and produces a valued oil
Fig
Several Fig species have been cultivated in dry areas of northen africa for centuries and are an important source of income to  local communities
Cactii
While not trees, cactii add to bio-diversity and some species serve as animal fodder
Atriplex
Great for poor soils and dry areas, atriplex aids to biodiversity and serves as soil coverage for water retention as well as being a good source of animal forage
